Dr. Jon Barker - Project CI (Sheffield PI) - University of Sheffield

Research Website - http://staffwww.dcs.shef.ac.uk/people/J.Barker
Jon Barker is a Professor in Computer Science at the University of Sheffield, and a member of the Speech and Hearing Research Group. His research interests include speech recognition by humans and machines, audio-visual speech processing, machine listening and the application of machine learning to audio processing.

Prof. Roger Watt - Project CI - University of Stirling

Roger Watt is Professor of Psychology at the University of Stirling, a post he has held for over 25 years. He has a BA (Hons) in Natural Sciences from Cambridge and a PhD in Communication and Neuroscience from Keele. In 1995 he was elected FRSE.

His research covers many aspects of human visual processing, with specific focus on computational and psychophysical methods to understand at a systems level. His work is concerned in detail with the nature of spatial representation in vision: how the relations between visual features and objects are represented. He is interested in the issues that arise from applying what is known about the early stages of human vision to real-world tasks, such as face-perception and reading.

Dr Andrew Abel - Research CI - University of Stirling

Research Website - http://www.cs.stir.ac.uk/~aka

Dr Andrew Abel is a Research Fellow at the University of Stirling in Scotland. He received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. from Stirling University in Scotland in 2007 and 2013 respectively, after conducting pioneering research into developing cognitive multimodal signal-image processing algorithms for enabling next-generation multi-modal hearing-aid and listening device technologies. His inter-disciplinary research has led to a wide range of publications in leading journals and international Conferences. Since 2012, he has been employed as a postdoctoral Researcher and subsequently Research Fellow at Stirling University, first working on the testing of novel MEMS/CMOS microphone technology and the development of speech segmentation algorithms, and more recently on the development of next generation hearing aid technology aimed at developing hearing aids that can see.

His research interests focus on signal and image processing, with particular focus on the application of different modalities to speech filtering, including lip, language, and context information.

Dr. Peter Derleth - Industrial Partner - Phonak AG

Dr. Peter Derleth (*1968) received his degree in applied physics in 1995 from the University of Oldenburg, Germany, and his PhD in Psychoacoustics in 1999, titled Temporal and Compressive properties of the Normal and Impaired Auditory System from the University of Oldenburg.

Since 2000, he has been employed at Sonova AG, Switzerland as the director of the Algorithm Concepts Group which covers the fields of audiology and algorithmic research and performance profiling. Research topics range from acoustic stability enhancement (Feedback Cancelling) over directional (Beam Forming) and spectral algorithms (Gain Models, Noise Cancelling, Frequency Manipulations) to binaural and psychoacoustic effects.
